Mule Rides from Imlil
Your mule trek through the Atlas Mountains will take you through the lands of the Berbers: also known as the Amazigh, who have a history that predates the arrival of Islam and the Arabs. Walking through the High Atlas is a wonderful way of exploring the area. There are so many villages, waterfalls, rivers, mountains and of course, indigenous people and culture that are completely different with each visit.
Mountain Bikes
ATV´s are a regular sight around Morocco and travelling by mountain bike on the tracks in and around the High Atlas mountains, valleys and villages is a great way to gain a different perspective into the terrain and lifestyle. In Imlil you can rent super quality bikes with front loaded suspension for a more comfortable cycle. Contact Taib to reserve your bikes when you book your accommodation for a great day out and about.
Exclusive Adventures 4x4
Travelling around the High Atlas in a 4x4 will afford you a different experience than on foot, mountain bike or mule, and without diminishing the wonders of the Moroccan countryside. 4x4 excursions will take you deep into the mountain valleys and off road tracks to remote villages, crossing passes at dizzying heights and diverse landscapes from juniper and pine forests to lush terraced fields with adobe villages clinging to the steep mountainsides.
Hammam
The Hammam is an important part of Moroccan culture and life. Men, women and children visit their local Hammam at least once a week. They spend two or three hours there catching up on gossip with their friends, and following the long rituals for cleansing their bodies until their skin glows. We have our own hammam for the exclusive use of our guests with traditional black soap scrub and ghazzoul clay to cleanse the skin.
Skiing
The High Atlas Mountains of Morocco have some spectacular peaks with amazing ski slopes during the winter season. It is possible to spend an entire week when conditions are right, with a full support crew of mules and muleteers to carry gear and cook. Refuges are fully equipped for winter adventures and gear is available to rent in Imlil village.
Cooking Classes
Enjoy a cooking class in a traditional Berber house in the Mzik Valley near Imlil, exceptional views from this location add to the unique experience. A visit to the Asni Saturday Souk on the way from Marrakech to buy your ingredients with Mohamed whose house you will be cooking in, is quite an adventure. Mzik is located in one of the valleys that branches off from Imlil in the High Atlas below Mount Toubkal, which at 4167 meters in altitude, is North Africa´s highest peak.
Traditional Bread Baking
Historically, bread has played a huge and important role in the life of Moroccans. The bread bakers are usually women who are expert in kneading the dough until it is evenly distributed and enriched with herbs, spices, proteins, and other goodies. If you would like to participate in the bread making and baking, while you are staying in Ait Souka it can certainly be arranged.
Souk Shopping
Saturday is the weekly market or souk in the town of Asni which is the main source for buying and selling local produce and household needs for all the people in the valleys and mountain villages in this part of the High Atlas Mountains. It is an extensive souk making it an interesting experience for visitors.
